This modern home with
magical views of town
and country and an
extensive garden offers
an idyllic village lifestyle,
says Bobbie Nicholls.
Hunterville is a village on SH1 which has
everything you want for a rural lifestyle.
The owners of this family home on an
elevated site above the village are reluctantly
leaving a village which has offered them
friendship, support and a lifestyle, which, can be
as quiet or as busy as you want to be.
Hunterville has a great Red Cross driver service,
St John ambulance and fire brigade and a range
of interest organisations. The small shopping
centre offers day-to-day requirements and if you
need more, Marton is only 15 minutes away.
Prescriptions are delivered to the local store,
and there is a bank agency at another shop. That
is village life, where everyone knows and helps
The primary school has a great reputation,
drawing from a wide catchment and there is a
bus service for secondary students. So a family
will be well catered for in this lovely home.
Built in the 1960s, with the generosity of
storage and solidness of that era, the home
was completely revamped seven years ago. A
conservatory has increased the living space of
the L-shaped lounge-dining room. It not only
captures all day sun, but from the spa, or seating
space also captures views of the village and
surrounding hills. The magical views continue
from every window in the lounge.
The new kitchen has brightly coloured cupboards
and stainless steel appliances which are included
in the chattels.
A large ensuite bathroom and walk-in wardrobe
are included in the master bedroom from which
bi-fold doors access the terrace and capture the
Two more generous double bedrooms and a
large office (or single bedroom) complete the
accommodation. The main bathroom has a full
sized bath and shower and there is a separate
The laundry is an additional room with space for
hobbies or a large freezer. A garage for two cars
with more storage completes the house.
Diesel central heating ensures the house is
warm, even when the weather is not.
This home is reached by a winding concrete
drive which ensures complete privacy, although
it is only two minutes from SH1. It is set in a
landscaped, low maintenance garden where
rhododendrons and other shrubs give plenty of
colour. There is a view of the peak of Mr Ruapehu
from the top of the garden on a clear day.
Sheds adjacent to the house could be used for
shearing sheep or alpacas or as a hobby space
with a separate garage-workshop giving even
Nearly three hectares of land is included in the
package and a further three and half hectares is
also available for purchase as a separate block.
This is presently leased but would provide space
for horses, a few cattle or sheep.

Cunningham of Property Brokers, Marton.

The generosity of the Feilding community enabled
Literacy Feilding to raise funds by selling donated
Last Friday and Saturday the Community House
seminar room was full of 70 banana boxes filled with
a wide range of donated titles.
Although the strong wind on Friday denied the
opportunity to place advertising signs on the foot
path, a large number of people found their way to the
Feilding Literacy thanks all those who donated,
collected and helped sort the books and donated
items to be raffled.
There was one sour note to the fundraiser, a box of
DVDs which were given for sale, were stolen on
It is very sad to think someone would stoop so low
and take items from a community group which
provides a free service to Feilding, said Ruth
Perhaps the lady who took them would like to
drop in and pay for them so her donation can be
added to the amount raised by the book sale!
Literacy Feilding provides a range of learning
opportunities to adults who wish to extend their
knowledge in order to help their children with home-
work, fill in forms, create a CV, learn the road code
and obtain their learner driver licence. Basic com-
puter lessons and study support are also offered.
Literacy Feilding tutors are qualified to assist and
encourage learners to reach their learning goals.
The book sale will be repeated in November next
